The finals for the local Family PLUS (Parent Leading, Uniting, and Serving) Cook-Off competition were held on October 23rd at the Boys & Girls Club of Benton County Carl and Alleen McKinney Unit from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Families included the Alvarado Family, Colt Stacy’s Team, Robinson Family, and Ayala Family. At the local event, each family finalist was assigned a cooking station – all stocked with the same ingredients. Fifteen minutes into the competition the secret ingredient, blueberries, was introduced and used by each family. The objective of the Cook-Off is for each family to use the ingredients to make the most mouthwatering theme dish in just one hour. Dishes were judged based on presentation, conformance to the theme, taste, and originality. Although the judging was close, the winning family team was the Alvarado Family from the Rogers Unit.
Marissa Kargas, anchor for KNWA-TV news was the master of ceremonies for the event. Event judges include State Senator Bart Hester, Pinnacle International Real Estate Group; John Scholes, VP Walmart International at Kimberly-Clark; Scott Winchester, Director of Sales with Blue Rhino; and Trent Weller, VP Beverages Sam’s Club.
