Merrily, merrily the McKinney community garden grows with the hard work of volunteers. Pictured here is Hanna Whitehead, the McKinney Unit’s Program Director with a group of volunteers from Nestle working hard to prepare the garden for the spring planting. Youth and parents will also volunteer time to help in the gardens’ preparation, planning, maintenance and harvest. Families will learn skills to secure foods from seed to table. Nestle has been instrumental and in the forefront supporting the community garden and helping with garden maintenance. We greatly appreciate their support in the Healthy Lifestyles program activity. The fruits of the labor are used in nutrition education courses, snacks at the Club, and taken home by parents who may not otherwise have access to fresh vegetables. The access to hunger relief program is supported by the Walmart Foundation.
