One of the major developmental goals of the Boys & Girls Club of Benton County is that our kids are successful in school. Yamilette Contreras is a Rogers Unit member, struggling last year with her Accelerated Reader (AR) goals and her scores last year were below Arkansas’ standards. The Rogers Unit Director, Cindy Menjivar, met with the ESOL teacher at Eastside Elementary to discuss how the Club could assist Yamilette advance through utilizing the Unit’s Learning Center resources. After the meeting, Club staff members met to develop a support plan to help her achieve reading success. After much hard work on Yamilette’s part this first quarter, she met and exceeded her AR goal. She has now taken the initiative to inspire other Rogers Unit members to, not only reach, but exceed their AR goals. Cindy says, “Every now and then I’m fortunate to have the Reading Club in my office. It is inspiring to see this group of kids strive to improve. Yamilette is a prime example of how we are not only bridging the gap but also partnering with local schools to better serve our kids in any way possible.” We are proud of you Yamilette!!
