Thanks to generous support from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation the Summer Learning Program completed with 109 children enrolled. The program helps children who are behind in grade-level in math and reading. Children in this age group and demographic often fall further behind their peers in the summer months. As measured by pre and post assessments, the program was a success. No child had any summer reading loss and 43 children had significant overall reading gains. 73 children improved in at least one reading realm and on average children improved in 2 realms. 44 children improved in miscues, 36 children improved in accuracy, 27 children improved in words per minute, and 39 children improved in comprehension. The math program pre and post assessments showed an average grade-level increase of .35 .
