Healthy Lifestyles

Our Healthy Lifestyles programs encourage children to make healthy food choices, become physically active and engage in healthy relationships. We strive to help kids develop healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

SMART Moves is an evidence-based prevention program to provide youth with the tools to resist alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, as well as postpone sexual activity. The program is broken into three stages: SMART Kids for ages 6-9, Start SMART for ages 10-12 and Stay SMART for ages 13-15. The program uses a team approach involving club staff, peer leaders, parents and community representatives. The program teaches young people how to say no by involving them in discussion and role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills, developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and analyzing media and peer influence.

SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8 to 17. Classes are divided into two age groups, 8-12 and 13-17, where young women explore societal attitudes and cover topics such as health and fitness, nutrition, dating, education, and skills to develop positive relationships with peers and adults.

Passport to Manhood promotes character, leadership and positive behaviors in club boys ages 11 to 14. Passport to Manhood consists of 14 sessions, each concentrating on a specific aspect of character and manhood. Each club participant receives his own “passport” to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey of maturation and growth. The program also includes a service project where boys learn the importance of giving back to the community.

NetSmartz

NetSmartz teaches Internet safety skills through engaging multimedia activities and offline interaction with club professionals in three age-appropriate groups.

Cooking Matters program provides age appropriate curriculum to help kids develop the knowledge and skills necessary to make smart food choices, understand appropriate portion sizes, and create fun and healthy meals. Cooking Matters also has a parent component where adults can learn to cook affordable, healthy meals.

The PGA Sports Academy introduces youth, ages 7 to 13, to the sport of golf to help young people build character and develop healthy and active lifestyles. Golf is a fun, active sport  that gives young people stamina, focus and skill, while exposing them to a lifelong leisure activity It is also an opportunity for personal and professional development.

Triple Play is a dynamic wellness program that demonstrates how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships add up to a healthy lifestyle. The goal of the Triple Play program is to improve club members’ knowledge of healthy habits, increase the number of hours per day they participate in physical activities and strengthen their ability to interact positively with others.

Social Recreation

The Social Recreation program integrates sportsmanship into everyday recreation activities. Each club has a game room that is utilized not only for fun and social interaction but also provides a rich environment in which informal guidance and character development occur.

Flag Football

Our Flag Football program is for our elementary school members. It is a fun, non-competitive league meant to encourage physical activity, social interaction and teamwork.

Since 2010, thousands of local club members have received a dental screening through a generous partnership with Johnson & Johnson. The program also provides education about oral hygiene and teaches kids how to maintain good oral health.
